Back to Basics: Business Research
Business information seems to be everywhere but is it the information we really need and does it answer our client questions? It takes more than just finding information to perform business research! This course is designed to help you find, evaluate, and structure business information. Basic business sources and practical research tactics and strategies for finding business information will be offered; along with practical frameworks for decisions, processes, and methods of developing answers without being overwhelmed by the sources.
This basic strategies approach towards the collection and provision of quality business information research offers a variety of core concepts and techniques. Attendees will:
- Practice applying a research framework to solve business information research problems
- Be presented with eight research strategies and tactics which they can apply and interpret in performing business research
- Be instructed how to take a process approach to research questions.
The program includes business research basics-core research methods, strategies, and tactics; finding and using sources; and setting the work within larger professional and ethical contexts.
About Roberta Brody:
After building a successful research business, Roberta earned her Ph.D. in Information Policy from Rutgers University. Bobby Brody now educates the next generation of business researchers and corporate CI and information professionals at the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies at Queens College, City University of New York. She teaches business reference, competitive intelligence, and records management courses at the Graduate School.
A founding member of SCIP and one of its first presidents, Dr. Brody currently is a Fellow of the Society. For two years, she was Co-Editor of the Journal of Competitive Intelligence and Management.
Roberta has been an active member of SLA for over 25 years. She began as a student member when she was pursuing her MLS and has been active in both local and national activities.
SLA-NY will present this course on Thursday, April 2nd from 12:30-4:30 at METRO (57 East 11th Street, 4th Floor--between Broadway and University Place, near Union Square).
This four-hour course is being offered by the New York Chapter for $ 225 (SLA member) / $ 275 (non-member).
